November 3: crowdsourcing in 1750? When the favorite tenor of Jean Philippe Rameau wanted to quit, a fundraising was created to keep him singing
November 17: Jazz? Pop? Mood music? [part I of II] Actually it is classical music composed within the last few months for piano or small orchestra, just like songs without words. We will hear Compositions by Quebec composers like André GAGNON, Francois DOMPIERRE and Coeur de PIRATE but also by Alain LEFEVRE, Christian LOFFLER, Yann TIERSEN.
November 24: The French CELLO masters with Jacqueline DUPRE, Paul PORTELIER, Bruno PHILIPPE and Renaud CAPUCON performing Camille SAINT SAENS or directed by Daniel BARENBOIM.
FRIDAY November 26 -can be found in the archives HERE under Classical Friday [special program for Chris Salak]: The months, by Fanny MENDELSSOHN. She composed a piece for each of the 12 months and even named a few like "A dream" for January, "Serenade" in June or "The rive"r for September. In 1841 she composed a cycle of piano pieces depicting the months of the year, Das Jahr (The Year). The music was written on tinted sheets of paper and illustrated by her husband, with each piece accompanied by a short poem. Some suggested that the poems, artwork and colored paper may represent the different stages of life.
December 8: Jazz? Pop? Mood music? [part II] Actually it is classical music for piano, guitar, violin or small orchestra, just like SONGS WITHOUT WORDS, part II. We will hear Compositions by Quebec composers like André GAGNON, François COUTURE, Sylvain NEAULT, Marie PIER, Guy BERGERON and more.
